Shymkent, a city in southern Kazakhstan, is the third-largest city in the country. It is a city with a rich history that dates back to the 12th century. In the 18th century, it served as a strategic center for the Silk Road, and in the 19th century, it was an important center of trade and commerce. One of the most interesting historical sites in Shymkent is the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, a 12th-century Sufi philosopher and poet. This mausoleum, which dates back to the 14th century, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Interestingly, in Soviet times, the site was used as a secret laboratory for the development of biological weapons. Today, the site has been restored, and visitors can appreciate the beautiful ancient architecture. Apart from its historical sites, Shymkent is also known for its modern attractions. One of these attractions is Mega Shymkent, a large shopping center that is popular with locals and tourists alike. Another popular attraction is the Central Park, which offers a range of activities such as roller coasters, bumper cars, and a Ferris wheel. Additionally, travelers to Shymkent can enjoy traditional Kazakh cuisine such as beshbarmak, a dish made from boiled meat and noodles. They can also experience the unique Kazakh hospitality by staying in a yurt, a traditional Kazakh dwelling, which can be found in the countryside surrounding the city.
