Praid is a small town located in Harghita County, in the heart of Romania. It is well-known for its salt mine, which has a history dating back to the early 1700s. The mine is one of the largest in Europe and produces over 600,000 tons of salt per year. Visiting this salt mine is a must-do for anyone who comes to Praid. Apart from the salt mine, Praid also has other interesting places to visit. The village museum is an open-air museum showcasing the traditional architecture of the Székely people, who are an ethnic group in Transylvania. The museum has a collection of cottages, barns, stables, and churches that have been preserved from the 18th century onwards. Praid is also home to a unique attraction, the Praid Salt Canyon. This canyon was created by the mining of the salt and has a surreal landscape of salt pyramids and rock formations. It is possible to take a guided tour of the canyon and learn about the history of the mine and the process of salt extraction from the rocks. In addition, Praid has several options for accommodation and dining. The town has a few good restaurants serving traditional Hungarian and Romanian cuisine. There are also plenty of guesthouses and hotels to choose from, ranging from budget-friendly to luxury options.
