San Sebastian is a city located on the northeastern coast of Spain, famous for its picturesque beaches, ancient architecture, and culinary delights. One of the most striking landmarks that has marked the history of the city is the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Chorus – a magnificent Gothic-renaissance style cathedral that dates back to the 18th century and sits on a hill overlooking the city centre. The cathedral is known for its impressive façade, elaborate frescoes, and stunning altar piece. Apart from its religious monuments, San Sebastian has several intriguing museums such as the San Telmo Museum – a former Dominican monastery that now houses an extensive collection of Basque art and artefacts from pre-modern times to the present day. Another popular attraction is the Aquarium – one of the most modern in Europe – home to over 200 different species of marine life and a favorite spot for families with kids. When it comes to food and drink, San Sebastian is widely regarded as one of Spain's top gastronomical destinations. The city boasts some of the finest seafood restaurants in the country, renowned for their signature dishes such as the Basque-style grilled squid or the famous pintxos – small snacks of bread and toppings that are served in bars all around the city. San Sebastian is also famous for its cider – a traditional alcoholic drink made from fermented apples – that can be experienced in one of the many cider houses dotted around the countryside.
