Naples - Information
Naples is a beautiful city located in Collier County, Florida, United States. It is known for its warm sandy beaches and its picturesque sunsets. Naples has been inhabited for more than 2000 years, and it was originally inhabited by the Calusa Indians who built a powerful kingdom along the southwestern coast of Florida. The name 'Naples' was given to the city in the late 1800s by a group of wealthy Kentuckians who were impressed by the beautiful bay and its warm climate, which reminded them of Naples, Italy.
The Naples Pier, first built in 1888, was originally used for freight and passenger services and was rebuilt in 1965 after a hurricane destroyed it. Today, the pier is a popular spot for fishing and watching the sunset. Another interesting historical site in Naples is the Palm Cottage. It was built in 1895 and is the oldest house in Naples. The cottage was built in a style typical of the 'cracker' architecture of early Florida, and in 1989, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
